OMB released a progress update on its three “cross-agency priority goals” as of the third quarter of fiscal year 2023. It highlights progress on Priority 2, which focuses on improving customer experiences for targeted federal services. It also provides new metrics for Priority 3, on a dashboard for government business operations, such as internal HR and IT services (scroll down to find it).

 This article uses the tenets of critical race theory to illustrate how to use the budget process to incorporate equity. The resulting racial equity budgeting (REB) framework has three tenets: acknowledging and correcting historic biases, increasing the voice of nondominant groups, and disrupting the status quo by ensuring equity in current policies.
